Working With Children And Young People

On Sunday mornings we have On-Line@9, is a lively service of praise and interactive worship for all ages, with a particular emphasis on making worship accessible to all ages without losing its power. As its name suggests, it starts at 9:00am and finishes at about 9:50am, leaving much of the day for other family activities.

The singing is lively, led by a small music group with a variety of instruments, and there is always room to include others – musicians take note!

Teaching is based on the Roots materials, a joint Churches venture based on the Revised Common Lectionary (a three year plan of bible readings), and is adapted to make it suitable for all ages. Themes are often introduced with a short sketch or dramatised reading, and most usually explored in a Group Time when the congregation splits into appropriate age groups, currently 3-4, 5-7, 8-11, 12+ and adult.

There is a crèche for very young children (0-2) within the Sanctuary, allowing parents to partake fully in adult groups whilst keeping an ear on their children!

The music group plays contemporary Christian music and traditional songs with a modern twist.

King's Club

The King's Club is an annual holiday club run by the Churches Together in Ilkley every August for 5 to 11 years olds.  Each year it takes a different theme to teach children about Jesus.  It meets for a week every morning (10-12 noon) with a celebration for all the family on the Friday at 12 noon.  A different church hosts it each year.

The 2007 King's Club is called Wastewatches and meets at Christchurch from Monday 13th August until Friday 17th August.  We will explore the themes of God's creation, caring for the environment and Jesus transforming lives.  It includes drama, craft, games,Bible discovery, creative prayer and more!

To book, pick up a form from the Christchurch Foyer.

Parents and Toddlers

We warmly welcome babies in arms and preschool toddlers accompanied by their parents, mums or dads, grandparents or carers. There is a happy friendly atmosphere.
We have a good range of toys and equipment and a quiet area for the younger children to crawl on a rug.
Each morning concludes with a 15 minutes all together, singing action songs and nursery rhymes, which the children love.
A small charge is made for each session. Contact the Church Office for more information.

Younglings

Christchurch’s youth fellowship (age 12-18) is called ‘Younglings’ (Stars Wars fans will recognise the name of the youngsters training in the ways of The Force to become Jedi Knights).    As well as learning that being a Christian is fun, they explored why Jesus had to die, why and how Christians pray, where church fits into faith and how to tell other people about Jesus.  They had an away day in May at Sowerby Bridge where they talked about the Holy Spirit.  Activities included painting T-shirts, water relay races, and making friendship bracelets.  They meet on Sunday evenings at Church.

They also attend "Resonance" at Skipton Baptist Church and share some meetings with All Saints Church, Ilkley.

Teddy Service

A novel act of worship for pre-school children and their parents/carers/grandparents but is especially enjoyed by children with learning difficulties from Brooklands School, Skipton. It takes place from 10am to 10.20am on the second Friday of each month.  It is a simple act of worship with a mixture of fun, games and stories about Jesus.  It’s friendly and fun, and a warm invitation is extended to all.
