Pentecost 2009

The music group at the Ilkley bandstandPentecost 2009
Pentecost is the festival when Christians celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit, on the Sunday seven weeks after Easter.
Pentecost is regarded as the birthday of the Christian church, and the start of the church's mission to the world, when the first disciples were given the Holy Spirit, enabling them to go out and preach the good news of Jesus.
The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit that is the way Christians understand God.
The symbols of Pentecost are those of the Holy Spirit and include flames, wind, the breath of God and a Dove.

At Ilkley this year, we held a service of celebration and witness in the bandstand, next door to our church on The Grove. Our music group played and sang, and our minister Rob led the worship.
Folks were given flame-coloured balloons to represent the coming of the Holy Spirit.
