Showstoppers Kings Club
ILKLEY CHILDREN CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST! Over 40 children celebrated Christmas at St Margaret’s Church, Ilkley, on Thursday 20 August. Christmas songs filled the church and the children performed and watched a nativity play in the shadow of a Christmas tree.
These unseasonal celebrations were followed the next day by Easter as part of this year’s holiday club run by all the churches in Ilkley. Each day, from Monday 17 until Friday 21 August, the children heard about an amazing, showstopping bible story, starting with the creation story, then discovering the courageous faith of David against Goliath and Daniel in the lions’ den. Finally they looked at the Christmas and Easter stories to find out why Jesus was born and how he died and rose from the dead, so that we can live in heaven with God.
The club was called ‘Showstoppers’ and the children had a chance to perform songs and dramas as well as make crafts and play games in their groups. There was also a chance to reflect and chat about the issues facing them in their lives in the light of the stories they had heard.
The club was led by people from all the churches across Ilkley and headed up by Alex Cockshott from All Saints.Next year the holiday club will be held at Christchurch on the Grove in August.
