Circuit Steward

What is a Circuit Steward?

The Ilkley Circuit has two Stewards: Angela Pearson, a member of Addingham Church, and Mike Dixon, a member at Christchurch. Church members will be aware of some of our ‘up-front’ activities, like the organisation of the Circuit Weekend at Whitby, occasional ‘Quiet Days’ for reflection and sharing, and the Special Services when ministers depart or retire, or when they are welcomed into the Circuit. However, there are some other jobs that we do behind the scenes that might interest you

  • Care and support of ordained staff (presbyters and deacons) and lay-employees
  • To be representatives of the people. This means being listeners at meetings; giving input to consultations in individual churches, in the circuit or at district events
  • To lead in mission and ministry in cooperation with the ordained staff, lay-employees and the members of the Circuit Leadership Team attempting at all times to create a balanced partnership
  • To take a lead role in the appointment of ministers (and other staff) accountable to the Invitation Group and the Circuit Meeting
  • To ensure that the Manses are well-maintained and adequately serve the needs of the ministers
We greatly appreciate the support that we receive from the members of our four churches and from the ministers in fulfilling these duties.
